Did you know many land trusts across the country offer free environmental education programming year-round? Wherever you are, exploring outdoor events can be a great way to learn about nature and connect with your community.

Here in Vermont, I recently joined a winter tree identification walk with Middlebury Area Land Trust (MALT), Vermont Coverts, and VT Department of Forests, Parks and Recreation. It was fascinating to learn about how environmental factors can shape the ways trees grow, and how that knowledge can help you decode the history of a place.
If you’re local to the Middlebury, Vermont area, check out MALT's Event Calendar for more free outdoor education opportunities and events. And if you’re from farther away, see what programs your area might offer—nature and art go hand in hand!
(Psst: Keep an eye on MALT’s spring events—you might just spot some art you recognize!)
