'Rose Hips No.3'
original art
9x12
goldenrod, watercolor, pastel on paper
This work on paper was created in collaboration with wild flowers and grasses in a meadow. The foundational washes are of goldenrod pigment, dappled with shadows of asters. Additional washes and pastel were placed in the studio, allowing the composition to evolve. The name suggests the fruit of a rose plant, both beautiful and healing. The piece serves as a reminder that time spent in nature can also be a balm to the soul.
Please note that botanical pigments can fade over time. The foundational (background) washes of this piece may change color over time. For this reason, anyone interested in this piece purely because of aesthetics should purchase a fine art print, to assure that their piece will remain colorfast. I believe the changeable quality of hand made pigments is part of what makes them so special. If you think so too, then the original is the piece for you!

This piece is part of the series “Of September.” In the colder days, when things are a bit more difficult, the memory of September keeps us going when we need it most. All original works in the series include some hand-made pigment from goldenrod plants which were harvested at the height of their bloom. The paintings in this series serve as a reminder of nature's most bountiful and generous season. Please consider measurements carefully before purchase and take the time to view colors on different monitors, as colors may appear different on different devices. I have done my best to represent all artworks accurately. All works are signed, stamped, and titled individually by the artist. Please note that your purchase does not include a frame. This original work on paper will look best when displayed in a frame. If you are unsure about which frame to choose, I have created a guide for you here.
